LODGE UPDATE

OLD JOKE, TRUE STORY

Guide poling a skiff while an angler in a full banana costume makes a cast on the flats.

One of my guides, Dingy, is on the platform polling. The client is on deck with more line stripped out than he can cast. Dingy yells, “11 O’clock, 45 feet!!” The guest starts reeling in line as fast as he can, catches his fly, hooks it in a rod guide, tightens the slack, turns around, and extends his rod to Dingy to stow in the holder. Dingy’s wondering….What?! The guest heard, “It’s 11:45, let’s eat.

I'VE SEEN BIGGER

Angler holding a large bonefish in shallow turquoise water on South Andros.

Over two pounds and clears twelve inches with room to spare. I’d rate the fall fishing as excellent with high fish counts and a few over 28 inches.

NEW BOATS

Guide Pap standing on one of the new Mars Bay skiffs at the dock, ready for a day on the flats.

I just finished the last boat, completing a set of five. Built from gelcoat, a drum of resin, a couple of rolls of biaxial mat, and composite board, not a toothpick of wood. They’re custom-built for bonefish water: ultra-light, overbuilt, and fast. Each one took about thirty days of my life I’ll never get back. Pap will be running this one.

THE GUIDES

Mars Bay guide team posing together before a day on the flats, South Andros Bahamas.

I’ve always had a great guide staff but it’s not for me to decide. You, the client, decide. The reviews are in, and they’ve been outstanding. Every week, clients tell me the same thing: “I’d fish with any one of them.”

I hear the stories about other lodges. Abusive guides barking at clients. Full throttle
boat rides over lumpy water that’ll rattle your teeth and cross your eyes. And the
weak link nobody wants to fish with. Not here. No way.

These gents are experienced.
In the back, left to right, is Pap and Dingy with 15 years here, and Bruce with 13
years. Up front are the young guns, Dillon and Justin, three years each, and getting excellent reviews.

No weak links. This is the best guide staff I’ve ever had…and I’m not easy to please.

FLIES and RODS

Did you know I’ve got fly-tying videos tucked away on the site? I’ll be adding more.If you want to kill an afternoon and pretend it’s “research,” here you go.

There’s also a blog on the site where I go on a little rant about fast rods.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to leave a review this season — we’re still
five-stars across the board. If you’d like to read what people are saying or leave one

YOUR NEXT TRIP STARTS HERE...

WINTER/SPRING 2026 is nearly full.

The only full week open for a group wanting an exclusive is the last week in May, and the fishing is excellent that time of year. Not every week is booked full. I have a few slots open. If you’re a single, two or four-man crew, with a little flexibility, I can usually find a week that works.

If you’re thinking about a winter or spring 2026 trip, now is the time to make arrangements. Send an email to [email protected] or click the button below and I’ll add you to the calendar.
