Mars Bay Bonefish Lodge
Meet Captian Bill
Mars Bay Bonefish Lodge – People have called me several things but most people call me Bill. I tend to the details. I’m an American owner/operator and have managed the lodge since it opened in 2002.
If your looking to go fly fishing for bonefish in the Bahamas, you just found one of the best, Mars Bay Bonefish Lodge. But first, I’d like to be clear about what the lodge isn’t…this ain’t a resort, it is a fishing lodge. We reserve all slots for fishing guests. I don’t entertain complaints about the pillows being too hard, not enough closet space, or dogs fornicating on the beach. Yeah…it happened. I politely said, “You didn’t have to watch”. On arrival, the odds are good one of my dogs will stick his nose in your crotch. He’s glad to see you.
There is absolutely nothing pretentious about the lodge. We don’t have a cement pond, we use paper napkins, and we won’t crack your pepper for you. We don’t put a mint on your pillow or a fresh flower on your nightstand. You can grab your own beer and mix your own drink the way you like it. Drinks are on the house, it’s included in the rate. Think of it as the difference between a stuffy dinner party or a casual gathering with good friends.
This is a place for anglers who care more about the next cast than room service. There is some drinking and smoking cigars going on. We fish hard, cuss a bit, tell bad jokes, laugh like idiots, and we avoid politics like a bad cast. If you want pampered, book a resort. If you want real bonefishing in the Bahamas, welcome to Mars Bay.

The onsite American owner does everything from troubleshooting engines to grilling lamb racks and runs an everything functions perfectly lodge. The fishing grounds at the southern end of andros hold numerous and large bonefish; the guides are uniformly superb. Having fished all over the Bahamas I come back to Mars Bay as the top choice Martin CTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. If you seriously love bonefishing, this is the place to go. Gayle RobertsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I’ve been to Mars Bay Bonefishing Lodge seven times. The Lodge is the farthest South on Andros, so it’s the closest to the bonefish flats. Fishing is consistently good, the guides are from South Andros and know the waters extremely well and do a great job. The boats are well maintained and dependable. The kitchen staff are delightful and talented with their local cuisine as well as imported delicacies. Bill is a fine host and his Lodge operates like a well tuned mechanism. It’s obvious that Bill loves what he does. I’m already looking forward to trip #8. MR dan kirkpatrickTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Bill, It’s our second year to join you, and Kim and I can’t say enough on how great Mars Bay Bonefish Lodge is to spend a week with your fantastic fishery, unbelievable guides who can spot bonefish on the flats so well, best skiff boats that are so well maintained and ride dry and float shallow and get you home safely. Bill has the new SFC matts in all of his boats for fly line management on the line when being poled. There is nothing better than stalking the flats, casting and watching the bone eat the fly and hear the drag of the reel going. This place with number of fish compared to other places we have been is the best in the world. The lodge has unbelievable food made by two of the best ladies in the world. The meals and deserts are so good. Rooms are large, beds are comfortable, private bathrooms, and emaculate. Mays Bay Bonefish Lodge is my one of my favorite places. We will be back next year or sooner. It’s an easy flight in Makers air into Congo town. Thanks to all the staff at the lodge!!!! The Ritz of Mars Bay. Bonefishing is great! Amazing week at Mars Bay Bonefish lodge! All the guides are exceptional and work diligently to ensure you have a great time and catch lots of fish. The accommodations are superb with delicious meals prepared by Vaddy and Crystal! charles mankerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We were at the lodge in March 20 25 and fished five days. We consistently caught fish mornings and afternoons. The fish were regularly 3 to 4 pounds with very few dinks. Some large schools but mostly doubles and triples. There are lots of opportunities to Wade gorgeous flats with occasional shots at 25 to 30 inch fish. Food is great and so are the accommodations. Definitely some of the most beautiful flats in the world are at South Andros. Bill runs a tight ship, his boats are clean and well-maintained and his guides are some of the best in the Bahamas . It has remained the most consistent fishery I have ever experienced. Have I had low number days, yes but they were not bad days as the guides were always working to make it a great day. Speaking of consistency, same guides all these years with the addition of new ones that are the sons of previous guides. Bill is always training and he retains his people! Same goes for staff. Bill, thankfully, hasn't changed either. This lodge is his creation and is maintained in perfect shape. Read the website description and you will know exactly what to expect; a rare attribute in the world of fishing, an honest website! I still marvel at the endless flats on South Andros. I believe there is nothing comparable. Bill Howard and staff are first class as well as the guides and boats. I am looking forward to getting back soon.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
